How to fit a Flip Lock Herbst
(without going crazy!!!)

When the appliance is returned to you from the lab, be careful how you open the packaging. Open the appliance, separating the top and bottom sections. Remove each rod from the lower section and smear a little Vaseline on them and reinsert them into the upper tubes.

The lower section is now basically a lingual arch and can now be cemented.

The upper rods and tubes can be removed by rotating the tubes 180 degrees so thay are facing backwards, however the rods and tubes need to remain attached to the upper part of the appliance whilst cementing this section. If you cement the upper part without the rods and tubes, you will not be able to get them in later. If the rods and tubes become mixed up and you are not sure which side they go on, there is a large indicator dot which faces outwards when they are in the correct position.

The ONLY way you will be able to re-attach the rods and tubes is by having the rod/tube assembly facing backwards and clicking it onto the ball joint, THEN you can swivel it  180 degrees forwards.

With the upper and lower sections now cemented in place, have the patient slowly bite down and forward and making sure the indicator dot on the rod is facing outwards, the bottom part of the rod can be clicked over the ball joint on the lower section.

Finally gently tighten the end of the rod over the lower ball joint using a flat on flat pliers and squeezing the 2 end pieces together over the ball joint. This must be done gently and only by a very small amount to prevent any damage to the appliance. This step is important to prevent the appliance coming apart.
